iPhone -- Finally
I finally broke down and bought an iPhone this week. I fought the urge as long as I could, but when I had to miss a rash of Boise State Football games this year and I was flush with ticket proceed cash I found the nearest AT&T store and signed on the dotted line. I just had to experience the phenomenon for myself. This is not a phone, it is a computer for your pocket.
The iPhone doesn't really offer too many new features. I'd already experienced active sync and tried to browse the internet on a phone. I'd sent the occasional text message. But on my last smartphone, a motorola Q, I mostly just made phone calls and got my email.
Here are some of the features:
- Visual Voicemail -- How it is supposed to be.
- iTunes Music Store -- a breeze to use
- Weather -- just like the widget
- iTunes -- better than a regular ipod
- Stocks -- I don't use it
- photos -- awesome
- calendar -- where are the tasks?
- camera -- takes pretty good pics that sync back into iPhoto
- sms -- it is like ichat, a more cohesive conversation than other text I've used
- safari web -- unequalled mobile web
- mail -- seems pretty solid so far
- uTube -- looks great
- maps -- really sweet
The interface is awesome. The browser is usable. Visual voicemail is a breath of fresh air. There aren't tasks which is a downer, and the keyboard takes some getting used to. The texting is actually usable to me. I haven't done a lot of texting, but it seems to use a more conversational style of communication that I've seen before. The maps are cool, the panning and zooming is very nice across all applications. The music store is very easy to use, I bought my first song tonight; easy. I'm a satisfied customer. Too bad they couldn't make it happen with verizon.
