Growl

I happened across a handy little application for MAC OS X this weekend. It is called Growl, and it is a notification system for OS X. It workes by giving you popups to show that certain events have happened.

I think that my favorite feature so far is the iMail notifications. If you've ever used Outlook 2003, you have probably seen the alerts that you get when new messages arrive. It allows you to see who the mail is from without bringing Outlook to the front. Growl gives that same type of functionality. You can click on the notification to open the email messages as well. It also has plugins into Safari, Adium and it has bindings for other languages including Ruby.
