Site Specific Browsers

There is a new phenomenon that I am starting to see out there. It is called Site Specific Browsers. The basic idea is a browser that is dedicated to a specific web app. This allows you to use the web app a lot like you'd use a desktop application. The web app gets its own Icon so you can have a desktop shortcut to the app. It is a cool idea. I'd like to do something like that for our intranet application.

Some examples are:

Fluid is based on Safari's WebKit rendering engine whereas Prism is based on the Mozilla web rendering engine, Gecko. Both projects are currently in Beta.
